Tuija Rinne started learning Oriental dance in 1985 in Egypt by studying the dance of ordinary people. Since then, she has continued her studies and research with world’s best instructors, many of whom have become her dear friends and colleagues.
Tuija was one of the founders of Masrah Association in 1992, and has been its artistic leader, trainer and choreographer of the dance company since then. She has performed both as a solo dancer and as a member of Masrah Dance Company in Finland as well as abroad. She
is also a member of the production team of Yalla! International festival of Oriental
Dance (Hwelsinki). Tuija’s work as the director of Masrah Dance Company has attracted notice and is much appreciated among both Finnish and foreign professionals. Her profound interpretations of Egyptian dance and music has raised the level of the Finnish Oriental dance and dance theatre to the top of the world, and a continuous and close collaboration with Egyptian teachers keeps creating new co-productions.
Tuija
runs her own school of Oriental dance in
Helsinki since 1989. She does workshops around Finland, and has taught also in Germany, Norway, Belgium, Spain and Egypt. Tuija’s teaching is based on the Egyptian dance technique and expression. She is a sharp-eyed and demanding teacher, who encourages her students to discover their own individual expression, at the same time respecting the cultural backgrounds of the dance.
Tuija has a MA degree from the University of Helsinki, Arabic and Islamic studies being her main subject, and she has worked many years as a teacher, researcher and translator of Arabic language.
